I am not a skinny girl. I have never been a skinny girl. I don’t have major image issues, like I’m not depressed because I’m not super thin, but I’ve also never have been too thrilled with my appearance.

When I was 18, I joined the Army. Basic Training was really hard for me, harder than I thought it’d be, but I did make it through. Afterwards, for my entire Army career, I always had issues with my weight and PT.

It wasn’t until after I got out of the Army that I was better at working out and dieting. Go figure. Not that I’ve been the best with it, but I’m better. When I moved to Boston, I joined a mixed martial arts gym and started doing Muay Thai. I lost a lot of weight and got in great shape, even if I still was a heavy weight in the boxing scene. I had the best time and loved every second of it, even if it was one of the hardest things I’d done. Unfortunately my schedule got crowded and money got tight. Then my Kru (instructor) moved and opened his own gym in New Hampshire.

I’ve been stumbling, trying to find something to kick start myself. Thom and I have been trying to eat better, which is great. On Tuesday, I got off my butt and joined a gym. It’s near my work, so I have to go by it on the way home every day. It was also inexpensive and everything is Rock n Roll themed! How sweet is that?

Day 1!

Day 1!

Yesterday was my first day. I decided to just stick to my 5k plan, since I’d like to run more 5ks in the future. I tried the elliptical for 3.12 miles today and DAMN that was tough. Running on the streets, or even a treadmill, is way easier. Ah well, that’s the way it goes!

I also discovered Diet Bet the other day and it looks like fun. Basically, a fantasy league, but for weight loss. I’m thinking of starting my own game on there. If anyone is interested, please let me know!

What are some good workouts that you do to stay or get in shape?
